I do kinda feel bad for my neighbors as I just keep my Camaro in FUCK YOU loud mode all the time, but V8 noises make everything better

Let’s concentrate on the more important things, like the fact that a 10 year old engine is closing in on 100hp/liter NA.

That’s seriously cool and good and all the things.

Haha - what time do you leave in the morning (when not quarantined)?

My old neighbors (good friends) would say, “We always know when Dave’s headed to work!” For me, it was generally around 7:00. I’d never get on it in the neighborhood, but there was a hill...

I’ ve had a loud V8, V6, I4, etc. and I have zero interest in having another loud vehicle.

With a few exhaust bits, I could make my 18 F150 sound very much like that Mustang, but I would never even consider it. I like a modest exhaust note, personally

I have enough neighbors with cats that are clearly not legally loud. I no longer worry about installing my valved exhaust next month lol maybe I'll at least keep the valves closed during early and late hours

I like a high flow cat, a compact resonator, and a high flowing muffler that adds some character. But mostly in the name of performance and weight reduction.

I’ve done the whole straight pipe deal and I don’t think I could deal with the noise or drone at this point. I’ve gotten to a point where I like my quiet I think. Ha

What I don’t understand with modern cars is how insanely expensive some ca tback exhausts are. Some of them aren’t even titanium or anything.

Around 6:45-6:50 every Monday-Friday, I’m an essential employee, so no quarantine. But I used to have a neighbor with a 5th gen SS with a horrible aftermarket exhaust that would fire it up around 5:30 every morning. One time he stalled it and I laughed myself back to sleep.

There’s a not-so-fine line between good noises, and good noises that are so absurdly loud that they become bad noises.

Source: The Mustang in my neighborhood that sounds like a NASCAR car, even when slowly accelerating from 5 mph to 33 mph. The volume is obscene, vibrates windows, and is not necessary.

Is the kind of thing that’s fun when you’re driving it, but not at all f un when your neighbor does. It’s too bad sounds piped in to the cabin feel so fake and dumb... It seems like that would be a no- brainier, the youth can drive and us crotchety old ppl can get our sleep.

Good! It’s a fairly rare milestone for any NA motor, especially in a street car.

I never got V8's until I got a V8. It’s such a soulful engine, while being completely boring and understressed when you are putting around. The sound of it pushing past 6k rpm makes every day better.

But, its mostly the LS6 that does that in the Z. A LS1 base car is fairly mundane imo

The S65 sounds good just about no matter what you do with it. That seems to have a nice sound and some volume without being obnoxious. How’s the inside under light load above 40? I’ve been surprised a couple of times by how bad some cars drone with even mild setups.

Sometimes I wonder why I keep a Camaro stashed away in the garage and only drive it on sunny days. The GTI is plenty of fun, right?   It all makes sense when I turn the key and that exhaust note  echoes off of the garage walls. Yes. V8 is the answer to all my troubles. A GTI is fun, a great daily driver, and is nearly as fast, but it doesn’t make the noise that an LS3 makes.

I’ve pretty much completely gotten over my GTI the last few months. Even a few months back I still wanted another, but now... I can’t see not driving a V8 to work. It makes everything better.

It can drone, but it’s not bad, and it’s easy to avoid. I try to keep RPMs above 3k, anyway, so I’m just a millisecond away from the power band.

I love my GTI. It is a fantastic car and I  will drive the shit out of it years. The Camaro is objectively a far worse car, but it holds a special place in my heart and will always have a place in my garage.

Me too. My neighbor (old lady , 90ish) once came out her back door and exclaimed “I thought you blew a pipe!” after I had parked the car. Lol! She’s a good neighbor.

Oh don’t get me wrong, the GTI is a better car in nearly every way, but it just lacks the soul that the Corvette has. It might not have the Italian theater soul of a Ferrari, but it definitely has some Motown soul. It evokes emotion that none of my others cars have.

I always went for the sensible choice when it came to engines, more efficient, budget conscience, better on fuel and in the case of my Ecoboost 2.7L, faster than most V8s.

However, once I got my Hemi with an aftermarket muffler to let it sing a bit (not stupid loud), I have really come to appreciate how important the sound is to the driving experience.

Driving my vehicle, heck just turning on, becomes a theatrical experience, turns the mundane into something much more.  It’s a sensory savory experience you just don’t get with more sensible engine choices.

I picked up a 99 5 speed v6 solara recently. Its got accident history and was not perfectly repaired but runs amazing. anywayy..t he previous owner installed a catback exhaust with no resonator . I don’t usually like noisy exhausts but this one sold me on the car.

its got just a hint of crackle to it but smooth . Great noises when rev blipping inside   parking garages and tunnels. it drones at 2000rpm but makes me laugh every time so I don’t mind.

Ill take a sound/ video if anyone (zoidberg lol ?) wants.
